Steering Column Switch Replacement - C Class - W204 - Mercedes-Benz


Steering Column Switch Replacement Time: 2 hours Tab: $260 Talent: 2 Tools: Small flathead screwdriver driver Applicable Models: Mercedes-Benz C250 (2012-14) Mercedes-Benz C300 (2008-14) Mercedes-Benz C350 (2008-14) Parts Required:Steering column tube module Hot Tip: Be sure to disconnect the battery and wait 30 minutes Performance Gain: Working switches Complementary Modification: Replace steering wheel with upgraded model For the W204 series Mercedes has replaced all the switches on the console with a singular steering tube module. This means if your switches, clock spring, horn, steering angle sensor or other components fail you have to replace the entire module. While the module is not cheap it is at least easy to replace. The airbag and steering wheel removal is required for this repair. When you remove the driver airbag, it is important you disconnect the battery and wait at least 30 minutes for any residual electricity in the system to dissipate. Once the airbag is removed, store it in a safe place facing up. If you connect the battery with the air bag removed it will cause a fault code and warning light that you will have to reset. If you do not connect the battery you can put everything back together without having to worry about this. Make sure it can't make accidental contact with the battery and allow 30 minutes for all the electricity to dissipate out of the vehicle.
