While these transmissions where originally thought to never need service, they do, and you can do it yourself and save a lot of money. The main problem with servicing this transmission yourself is that there is no way to pour the fluid in from the top of the vehicle so you must fill the transmission from the drain plug below. While this can be messy, it can be done if you have the right tool and a fluid pump. If you don't have a proper tool to screw into the drain plug and pump the fluid up into the transmission you will not be able to accomplish this job so please to do not start it without the right tools!
